World Book Day is on Thursday 5th March.
At school, we will be celebrating it with a range of activities based around books and stories including a reading themed assembly where a team of pupils will test their knowledge of books against a team of teachers. Other events taking place are:
- Dress-up as a book character: Children can come to school dressed as a character from a story. Pupils will have the opportunity throughout the day to talk about why they have chosen that character and discuss the story they are from.
- Mystery Reader: In Key Stage One,we run a scheme called ‘Mystery Reader’, where we have parents, grandparents and carers come in to school and read a story in their child’s For World Book Day, we are hoping to have a Mystery Reader in every class across school at 9.00am. If you are interested in being one of our ‘Mystery Readers’ on World Book Day, then please respond to the notification regarding this.
- Potato Book Character Challenge: All classes will be taking part in a competition to create a book character using a potato. The rules are quite simple – bring in a potato (uncooked) and create any book character you like using the resources in school, there are plenty of examples available on the internet. Prizes will be awarded in Friday’s assembly.
- Reading Cafe: Join us, in your costumes, in the library after school to read and share some of our amazing library books. There will be tea, coffee, juice and biscuits available and you’ll be able to take books home from the library.
