Year 6 ONLY Little Beck Farm Trip Permission
Wednesday 10th September 2025
Dear Parent/Carer,
Little Beck Farm Trip
Year 6 have been given the exciting opportunity to visit Little Beck Farm in Ellingstring, Masham, Ripon on several different dates in the Autumn Term. An active working farm, Little Beck Farm works closely with the Nidderdale AONB Farming in Protected Landscapes team who funds visits tailored towards providing an educational experience for children.
Little Beck Farm is a livestock farm with rare breed sheep and pigs, goats, chickens and horses which offers a rich range of opportunities to explore. Whilst there, pupils will be making and tasting cheese and butter, hand feeding the animals, learning about farming with nature, pressing apples to make apple juice and making their own sausages to bring back to Cookridge to make sausages sandwiches during their next Forest School session using the fire pit. Alternative activities and food have been planned for to allow for dietary requirements.
The trip will take place in three different groups, with each group going twice on the following dates:
Year 6 Group One: Tuesday 16th September and Tuesday 14th October
Year 6 Group Two: Wednesday 17th September and Wednesday 15th October
Year 6 Group Three: Thursday 18th September and Thursday 16th October
Your child has been given a hard copy of this information with their group and dates highlighted.
For the trip, please ensure children are appropriately dressed for the weather. As we will be outside all day, we recommend tracksuit bottoms or outdoor trousers, a jumper, warm jacket/fleece, thick warm socks, wellies/sturdy walking boots, and a waterproof coat with hood. The trip will run in school time, with the minibus leaving at 9.15am and returning to school before the end of the day. All pupils will need a packed lunch. A packed lunch will be provided if your child receives Pupil Premium Free School Meals.
There are no costs for the trips as they are fully funded by the Nidderdale AONB Farming in Protected Landscape initiative. Please give consent for your child to attend the trip by completing the form below. If no consent is received, then your child will be unable to attend the trip.
This is a fantastic opportunity for children to see the inner workings of a farm, engage with animals and fully understand the field to fork journey of our food.
Yours faithfully,
Mr. S Gamble
Forest School Leader
