EYFS Newsletter – 13.05.22

At the end of another full and fun-packed week in Reception class, let’s take a look back at what we’ve been up to.

Our Dinosaurs topic continues to fuel imaginations and has given inspiration for lots of activities such as handprint dino paintings, dino home building and dino dances!

Phonics this week even saw the children excited to exchange letters with a dinosaur! Inspired by the story book ‘Dear Dinosaur’ by Chae Strathie the children opened a letter from a dino friend and had to read it’s contents to identify which dinosaur to write back to. Applying their fantastic phonics skills the children then wrote letters in reply and posted them in the dino post-box!

In Maths this week, we have been working on adding two numbers together to make a total. The children have enjoyed exploring this concept in varying ways and are all becoming so much more confident with numbers as the weeks go by.

Thursday saw our fortnightly forest schools session and we spent a lovely day out in the school gardens. As well as putting the final touches to a huge bug hotel with collected sticks, leaves and moss, the children had another opportunity to spend time with and feed our rabbits and guinea pigs. We also discussed what plants need to grow before each planting some sunflower seeds of our own to tend as the summer months arrive.

Next week it will be P.E. on Tuesday (17.05.22) so children should please arrive to school in their kit ready to go.

Date for the diary:  On Friday 27th May school will be holding a Jubilee day to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, on which children are encouraged to dress in red white and blue to join in some exciting celebrations.
