The children in reception have had another brilliant week in class.
Our focus in phonics this week has been reading and writing polysyllabic words! This is a tricky skill and everyone did a super job using all of their phonic knowledge to help to sound out these long words. Once again, the children were tasked outside with retelling a story after reading a book. This weeks story was ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears” and a lot of fun was had acting out the different characters.
In maths we have extended our previous learning on repeating patterns but investigating more complex repeats outside. Inside we have also built on work from earlier on this term and explored numbers from 10 to 30. The children did a great job spotting patterns in the numerals and how to use numicon to represent the numbers.
On Thursday we had forest school and enjoyed visiting the animals, cooking popcorn on the fire, making dinosaurs using loose parts and reading stories under the tree house sat on the new bean bag chairs!
This week we have been practising our listening and drawing skills. We followed the instructions given in a drawing tutorial to draw our own dinosaurs with love hearts!
The children in reception were given their very own logins to a website called PurpleMash this week and enjoyed carefully typing in their details to log in and play the different games. We will send out cards with the log in details on before summer in case children wish to use the website over the holidays.
Elsewhere in the classroom we have continued our dinosaur topic making masks, drawing pictures and folding paper to make volcanoes!
