EYFS -Reception A/B Newsletter 5.07.2019

This week in Reception class we  ‘travelled’ to Kenya, joining Handa as she went to visit her friend Akeyo in the story ‘Handa’s Surprise.’ Indeed it was a ‘surprise’ when the children  came into the classroom on Monday morning to find Handa’s Fruit Shop. Chloe and Soni couldn’t wait to get selling their fruit. You did a great job girls but we think your fruit is a bit expensive – £1 for an apple!

In true Reception class style all our learning this week has been based around this lovely story. Even our maths sessions, have seen the children being challenged to solve money problems – adding up the cost of fruits then working out whether they had enough money to buy them. It was fantastic to see all the children eager to take up Handa’s Fruit Shop Challenge, maybe it was the incentive of getting fruits to make their own fruit kebabs for every problem solved.

If you were thinking you might like to visit Kenya then please don’t hesitate to visit our travel agents in the classroom and Phoebe and Miley will be happy to help you.

On Wednesday, it was exciting times up in the school garden for our Forest Schools session. Have a look at what the children got up to …learning how to use the flints to make a fire…Using whittling tools on pieces of tree branch…weeding and watering the garden…observing pond life in the school pond, there were lots and lots of froglets!

So as you can see yet another fun packed week of learning in Reception Class!

Have a lovely weekend and looking forward to seeing you all at the school fair tomorrow.
