LKS2 Newsletter 16/9/22

Happy Friday! Our first full week back at school and the children in LKS2 are really getting in the swing of things. Here is what we’ve been up to…

In English, we have been working towards writing a persuasive leaflet. We watched lots of different adverts and made a checklist about the persuasive techniques used. Then we used our ideas to make our own TV adverts for a chocolate bar! After planning and rehearsing, we performed them for the rest of the class. As we performed everyone had to check off all the persuasive techniques we used.

In Science this week, every class set up and carried out their own experiment. We discussed the importance of following each step of an investigation carefully, including making a hypothesis, writing the method and recording the results. We used these skills to carry out an investigation to answer the question ‘which material absorbs water the fastest?’

In Miss Evans’ maths group, the children have been exploring 4 digit numbers. They have answered some reasoning questions, practised partitioning the numbers and played some fun games. Our favourite was a mystery number game, where our partner wrote a 4 digit number on a post it note and we had to ask 20 questions to figure out what the number was.

Mrs Greaves’ maths group have worked extremely hard on their place value knowledge of 2 and 3 digit numbers. Using base ten, number lines and place value counters they have represented numbers in many different ways.

Finally, a big thank you to all the parents who came to our Meet the Teacher event on Thursday. It was great meeting you all and we hope you enjoyed looking round the school and getting a taste of what Cookridge is all about!

We hope you have a fantastic weekend!
