Reception – Newsletter – 10.1.20

Hello and welcome to this week’s newsletter. We hope you all had a lovely Christmas break!

The Spring term has got off to a roaring start with our dinosaur topic. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the dinosaurs visiting our classroom and leaving eggs for us to look after. We have a lot of eager children checking their eggs every morning and the majority have hatched and are growing well.

The children have come back to school reinvigorated and are continuing to use their skills to read and write. This half term we are learning about Shape, Space and Measure in greater depth so undoubtedly the dinosaurs will be compared by length and height.

Our classroom has had a prehistoric makeover and the children are busy creating stories in our new small world dinosaur world whilst excavating dinosaur bones from stone blocks.

Next week we will be trialing our new library system, allowing the children to check out their own books. Please ensure books are returned on the following Monday so that the children can check them back in.

Next week our phonemes are W and X and our measure focus will be length.

Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to read with some of our children. If you would like to volunteer, please see a member of the Reception team.

Key dates:

Parents event – Tuesday 21st January: Dinosaur design and build competition at 2pm in Reception class.
