To help us launch a series of events in school as we build up to National Poetry on 5th October, we have been incredibly lucky to secure the services of well renowned poet Tony Peek on Thursday 21st September for a whole school assembly and a series of workshops in Years 3-6. Mr Peek’s poetry workshops aim to introduce children to poetry in a fun and engaging way and at the same time help them to develop pleasure in reading and the motivation to read poems. Pupils will play word games, practise rhyming and are encouraged to write and share their own poetry. These poems might be Acrostic Poems, Shape Poems, Rhyming Poems, Alliterative Sentences, Kennings Poems or Haiku with some previous Y6 classes having even written Sonnets. At the end of the day, Tony will be based at the entrance to the playground with a number of books to sell where he will be happy to sign and personalise copies for children. In the event of bad weather, he will be in the school hall. For further information, please see below a link to Tony’s website and some of the books available to buy from him on Thursday after school.
