UKS2 – Newsletter – 04/11/2019
It has been a busy first week back in UKS2. On Tuesday, Class 8 braved the November weather and took to the playground to classify leaves. A mixture of Forest School and Science, the pupils were asked to come up with their own classification grids and, using their oracy skills, justify their choices for grouping. There was some excellent scientific reasoning on display, with some students independently employing a systematic approach to their search (a key principle in our learning objective of ‘Working Scientifically’), well done!
In English this week, all three classes have been exploring the use of figurative language within poetry. Using bonfire night as a stimulus, the children have gathered ideas regarding its impact on the senses to compose poetic sentences for their write. The pupils have also created their own interpretive dance and performed their poems in front of an audience.
Finally, in mathematics this week, Year 6 opened up their own ‘Kitty Cafe’ and they were given some large party orders. Using their knowledge of long multiplication, they were able to work out some multi-step problems to ensure they were meeting the needs of their customers and staying within budget.
