KS1 – Newsletter – 13.6.25

IMPORTANT: Please can all children wear their PE kit on Monday 16th June, as we have another ‘Funmoves’ day. Thank you in advance.

We had a fantastic start to the week, with our trip to Bridlington. We were really fortunate with the weather and the children had a whale of a time in the lido, great fun digging in the sand and playing on the beach and of course we all enjoyed our ice creams and lollies. The children’s behaviour was outstanding and we were really proud of them all.

After our amazing trip, there was only one thing we could do in English, and that was to write about it! The children have been writing a recount of their trip to Bridlington, recalling the events of the day in chronological order, using time connectives. They thought about their favourite part of the day and how they felt. Year One have been practising reading their real and alien words and we did our ‘quiz’ this week (phonic screening). Year Two

In Maths, Year One have been learning about money. They have been recognising and counting coins and notes. They know the features of each coin and their value. They were able to compare amounts of money and count different amounts of money using different coins. Both Year Two groups have been focusing on time. They have been reading the time on an analogue clock for quarter past and quarter to. They have looked at how many minutes past and to this is.

The puppets were at the stage where we could begin sewing the two sides together this week in design technology. The children focused well, holding the two pieces and threading around the edges.

In Music, Year One have continued to do the Carnival of the Animals. Today they were looking at aviary and aquarium. They completed various activities whilst listening to the music. They were introduced to a glass harmonica. They listening specifically for pitch and high pitch sounds. Year Two were learning a song called ‘Tidio’. They also learned a body percussion routine, that developed into a dance. They were also listening to the music of ‘The Beetles’.

After our trip to the seaside yesterday, the children were exploring seashells in art. They were looking at the textures and shapes of the shells, before using charcoal to design ad create their own shell using different shading techniques.

In RE, Year One have been learning about church buildings. They have looked at some old and more modern building and spotting features such as steeples, cross and stained-glass windows. They also looked at things inside the church such as pews, a font, lectern and a pulpit. They discussed what these things are used for. Year Two, have been learning about how muslims pray. They heard about the wudu, a special washing routine, completed before they pray. They know that they must pray five times a day and that they pray on mats facing towards Mecca.

Year One have been thinking about their environment around them in PSHE. They have thought about what is a natural environment and what has been built. They discussed what they can do to look after and maintain their environment. Year Two had a ‘happy’ lesson, thinking about what makes them happy. They then thought about what it means to be a positive thinker. They looked at different scenarios and how it could be looked on negatively or positively. They thought about how to ‘look for a silver lining’ even when things are not how we’d like them to be.

We had a fantastic end to the week with our alternative PE provision. The children were able to choose which activities to do and could move freely between them. They were able to choose to play tennis, individual skipping or skipping with the big rope, cross the river with blocks team challenge and axe throwing.

Huge Congratulations goes to Clara, who won 50 team points and a place on the Big Swing trip as one of the winners from the last artsmark competition. The new competition to create a picture of a famous person in the style of Andy Warhol. They must be on A4 sized paper and be in the same block colour ‘pop art’ style. All entries to be in by Thursday 19th June.
