RESPECT
Dear Parents/Carers
It has been brought to our attention that when our Year 6 children were returning from Residential on the coach, two parent’s vehicles were obstructing the road by parking on the corner and on double yellow lines. When staff asked the parents to kindly move the cars, as the coach could not pass and drop the children off safely, they were greeted with swearing and abuse.
Just to make sure you are aware of the the legalities:
HIGH WAY CODE
Rule 243
DO NOT stop or park:
Rule 238
You MUST NOT wait or park on yellow lines during the times of operation shown on nearby time plates (or zone entry signs if in a Controlled Parking Zone) – see ‘Traffic signs’ and ‘Road markings’. Double yellow lines indicate a prohibition of waiting at any time even if there are no upright signs. You MUST NOT wait or park, or stop to set down and pick up passengers, on school entrance markings (see ‘Road markings’) when upright signs indicate a prohibition of stopping.
Law RTRA sects 5 & 8
- Highways Act 1980: Section 137 deals with wilfully obstructing the free passage along a highway.
Just to make you aware of health and safety:
- We are a school of 315 children. The increased risk of accidents to drivers and pedestrians, especially at the start of the day and home time, greatly increases. We have actually witnessed a child get hit by a car at this very school and it wasn’t very pleasant to witness. Please don’t be the cause of the next incident.
Just to make you aware of the the parental contract you signed on the admissions form when you entered school:
- Be considerate to local residents and the safety of all pupils by parking their car with due care and concern
We know life is busy and pressures can sometimes be too much, but we spend and inordinate amount of time modelling to your children how to react when they are also under the same pressures. Please support us in creating an environment that is respectful. Please remember our staff are humans too and just to make you aware of what those staff, you chose to verbally abuse, had just done:
- Took 37 pupils on residential maintaining their safety and welfare under Loco Parentis (In the eyes of the Law – become their parents for a period of time) – 37 pupils went out, 37 pupils came back, having made memories for life.
- Staff were away from their families for 57hours.
- Worked 36.5 hours for free.
Thank you to all those parents that do respect the work we do and abide by the rules and generally make Cookridge Primary School a fabulous place to be.
Kind regards
Cookridge Team
