EYFS – Newsletter – 05.09.2025

Well we’ve reached the end of our first week in school! It has been a wonderful few days getting to know each other and exploring all the different areas that Reception has to offer. We have spent lots of time learning the routines and expectations of class life, so everybody has spent time early this week using the different areas of the indoor and outdoor provision and learning how to keep these areas tidy.

On Thursday and Friday the children all stayed for lunch and got used to our family service style, with the children involved in serving their own food and drinks, and then helping to clear away too! We were blown away by the maturity and independence and how happy the children were to pitch in and take on these responsibilities.

SCHOOL MILK: School provides free milk cartons for the children in Reception daily up until their fifth birthday, after which there will be a charge. If you do not wish your child to drink milk even up until their birthday (or if you know that your child will not want to drink this milk) please let the school office know by phone or email. This will just allow us to adjust our ordering and avoid waste, as we are routinely left with excess milk each day.

REMINDER: If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) please inform the school office. By claiming FSM you are not only eligible for free meals throughout school but funding to allow discounts on school trips and other enrichment activities. This funding is very useful in allowing school to offer the wide range of enrichment activities and provision that makes Cookridge so special, so don’t leave it unclaimed if you are eligible! If you are unsure of the criteria for eligibility please check via the government website –  https://www.gov.uk/app Ily-free-school-meals

REMINDER #2: PLEASE can we ask that all school uniform (especially coats and jumpers!) be marked clearly with your child’s name. Already this week we have jumpers go missing or end up in the wrong hands. If uniform is named it is much more likely things will be returned to the rightful owner. Unnamed and unclaimed items will be places in our lost property box in the cloakroom.

As a school we use a two week timetable, next week will be WEEK 1.

Week 1

Thursday – Forest School: Children to come into school suitable wearing clothes

Week 2

Tuesday – Forest School: Children to come into school suitable wearing clothes

We hope the children have enjoyed their first days at Cookridge Primary School. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during drop-off and pick-up this week, things will speed up as we become familiar with all of you (and you us!). We hope you have a lovely weekend!
