KS1 – Newsletter – 26.9.25

We are changing what appears on the newsletter slightly from this week. We are going to do some more subject posts with photos over the coming year. When those posts go on the website, those subjects will not appear on the website.

After reading Zog and thinking about the jobs they wanted to do and dressing up as what we would like to be when we grow up, we have been writing poems about it in English. We wrote acrostic poems with the job we would like to do down the side and have written words and phrases about that job. Year One’s phonic focus has been /oy/ for toy and Year Two’s phonic focus has been adding suffixes /s/ and /es/.

In Maths Year One have been finding one more than and one less than a number. We had fun in the forest schools area adding one more leaf or taking one acorn away. Year Two have been comparing two-digit numbers, using the greater and less than signs.

The children were making Couscous salad in Food Technology. They learned and practised the skills or cutting, snipping and In Design Technology, the children have been looking at their plans they drew for a castle. They then thought about and wrote down the steps they will need to follow to make the castle.

In Music, the children were learning a song about conkers and passing conkers around the group in time. They were also practising some harvest songs. They thought about the dynamics of a song, singing loudly and quietly. Year One practised the traffic light system to play instruments with control.

In art, Mrs Ledda read Hairy Maclary and looked at the illustrations with the children.  They looked at other illustrations of pets in books. They then used pastels to create their own shaggy dog pictures.

During the RE lessons, the children had an introduction to Christianity. They looked at Bibles used by adults and children and noticed the difference. They looked at different styles of churches and features they might see to identify it as a church. They also learnt about the cross and fish being symbols for the Christian faith.

We finished our week with our fantastic alternative PE. Each group was doing a different activity. We did fencing, Noodle drumming, Zumba and our brand new activity at the skate park with skate boards and scooters.
