KS1 – Newsletter – 14.11.25

We have all been writing adventure narratives this week in English. We planned what character we would like in our story, where the setting will be, what the problem and solution would be. We then wrote our stories trying to include interesting vocabulary, before publishing for our folders.

In Maths lessons, Year One have been learning about Numberbonds to 10. They have played a variety of games to help them remember them, whilst also finding the numberbond on ten frames and in part whole models. One group in Year Two have been adding two two-digit numbers and carrying, the other group have been doing column subtraction with exchanging.

We were learning about Remembrance Day in history. We looked at the reasons behind why we have Remembrance Day on the 11th November, who we are remembering and why. We also looked at the significance behind the poppy.

We have been thinking about Remembrance Day in Art too and the children have all created a soft clay poppy and drew poppies in their sketch books.

In Music, Year One have learned a song called ‘Sally go round the sun’. They have practised walking in time to the beat and worked on how to jump and change direction on a specific word/ sound. They then created their own body percussion sounds. Year Two have begun listening to The Nutcracker. They have learned the overall story and have taken the opening scene from a picture book and have created a musical sound scape/ composition.

In food technology the children have been making pizza bagels. They have been chopping, grating, spreading and sprinkling. Some of the children were more willing to try spring onions and mushrooms on their pizzas than others! In design technology, the children have been finishing off their castles, adding towers to the corners and painting them.

We finished the week off in energetic style with our alternative PE. This week, we had a group at the skate park, a group doing fencing, a group doing zumba and the final group were doing noodle drumming.
