Year 3 – Forest School

Year 3’s next session with GrowtoSchool as part of our project to grow more food in our school garden is next week so to prepare for this pupils have spent their Forest School session today doing some garden maintenance jobs. Pupils helped to transport some rocks from the field up to the garden area which will help to weigh down our protective fleece over new crops using a wheelbarrow as well as moving leaves which we gathered in the Autumn in newly built compost bays where the leaves will rot down over two years to create leaf mould compost. Children also carried out some jobs in the garden where they had to fix things blown over by winter storms, do some weeding, cut down our over-wintered green manure and harvested and washed some of the lettuce we have grown before having a try of it – the first produce taken from the newly installed vegetable beds – well done Year 3!
