KS1 – Newsletter – 2.4.26

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Africa event on Monday afternoon. We hope you enjoyed sharing with the children some of the things they have been learning and doing. Well done to our three photography winners and thank you to everyone who entered the competition, we had some great photographs sent in.

This week has been a general round up week of all things we have been learning this half term. We have published our fantastic stories for our folders and have completed some tasks in maths to ensure we have embedded the knowledge we have been learning.

On Tuesday, we were fortunate enough to have James Dasalou in school to talk to us about his career and do some sporting events with us. It was fantastic to be inspired by an elite athlete and to do some training drills with him. Maybe one of the children who have participated this morning, will go on to represent Great Britain in a sporting event when they are older. Thank you to everyone for raising money too.

The children had a great time in forest schools with an animal themed easter egg hunt after playing some games and singing some songs.. When they found an egg, it had an African animal inside. The children had to think about the habitat that each animal would need and create it.

It was all about categorising animals in science. This week, the children were cutting and sticking animals into the correct categories. They were also using flow charts/ decision trees to answer questions about each animal in order to identify it. They labelled different parts of animals and noted how things like beaks helped to identify it’s category.

In Geography and history, the children created a concept map. They were thinking about all the things that they have learnt about Africa over the last term. They could identify how many countries there are, what the weather is like and what animals can be found there. They could also name key people linked to Africa, such as Nelson Mandela and explain why he was famous. They talked about Apartheid and how unfairly black people were treated and how and when things changed.

Well done to everyone who entered our Easter egg competition! It was definitely worth it with the generosity from Bannatynes! All the children who entered received an egg, but as you will have seen, there was a bonus for the winners!

We have completed some fun Easter tasks and have each created an Easter card. We hope that you all have a lovely break whatever you are doing and we will see you all refreshed ready for our Summer term in a couple of weeks!
