KS1 – Science – Working Scientifically
KS1 are Scientists!
We have been learning all about what it means to think and work like a scientist, and we have been very busy!
We’ve been looking closely at the world around us and talking about what we notice. We’ve explored shadows, animals, fruit and lots of different objects, making observations and noticing how things can change over time.
We’ve also been making lots of predictions before putting our ideas to the test. Will it float or sink? Will the magnet pick it up? What will happen when we add water to our rainbow We’ve carried out lots of simple tests, including growing our own colourful rainbows, exploring magnets, testing objects in water and investigating how shadows change when we move a torch.
Our scientists have also been busy sorting and grouping! We sorted objects into magnetic and non-magnetic, grouped different animals and thought carefully about what makes things similar or different. When we tested which objects would float and sink, we recorded our results and then used what we had discovered to think about why some objects floated and others sank.
Most importantly, we’ve been learning that being a scientist is all about being curious, asking questions, having a go, noticing things and using what we find out to help us answer our questions.
We have loved getting stuck into our science investigations and are becoming some fantastic young scientists!
