It’s been a crazy first week back from half term in Reception! We’ve just recovered from yesterday’s fantastic World Book Day where we saw some amazing costumes come through the door. Our focus story was ‘Alien’s Love Underpants’ by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort and the children enjoyed lots of themed activities related to this book, looked over by a strange bunch of aliens (see photo below!)

The children loved drawing and describing their own alien creatures; designing a special pair of underpants for the aliens to wear; creating rockets and spaceships for the aliens from different materials; exploring space in a large rocket built from our construction equipment; and counting and ordering the patterned pants that the aliens left behind. All in all, it was a very fun day and the children had a great time joining in with all the activities. Thank you for all the efforts involved in all the amazing costumes – it was wonderful to see some many dressed up with us!

Maths sessions this week have concentrated on number and counting, focusing on the numbers 8, 9 and 10. The children have sorted different  number representations, gone on number hunts and made their own number books.

In Phonics, we have been learning and applying the digraph phonemes ar, or and ur. Children have been practising reading words and sentences using these phonemes and even played a game finding pictures in purses and matching them to words containing the digraphs of the week.

Next week, Reception haven P.E. on Tuesday 8th March, so please come dressed in kit ready to go. Thank you!

Have a great weekend!
