EYFS – Forest School
This morning, children in Reception had a wonderful time in our Forest School area learning all about winter! After discovering some ice blocks and shapes, children learnt about how ice is formed, what it is and where it goes. They had a great time trying to break it free from containers and tubs and used their imaginations to role-play and play games with it (such as making ice fires) whilst also spotting shapes they had made such as squares and triangles. Children also linked their understanding of science to explain that when water freezes it turns to ice and then back to water when it gets warmer. Away from the ice, children created dens using sticks for extra shelter from the cold wind, explored the mud kitchen and created frozen dishes to serve to each other and, with the lack of snow, created ‘tyremen’ instead of snowmen! They had to carefully stack tyres and decorate them, thinking about what resources were available to them and how they wanted their finished ‘tyremen’ to look like! Well done on a chilly morning Reception!
