EYFS – National Tree Week – Forest School
We continued our National Tree Week celebrations across school in Forest School today with Reception pupils enjoying a morning filled with tree-rific activities! After learning that trees provide us with food, oxygen and lots of other items such as firewood, paper, tables and chairs, children could choose their own way to celebrate tree week across the morning. Pupils could choose from drawing a tree using charcoal paint, building a tree out of sticks and leaves, playing tree tig, playing in the trees, building dens using parts of trees and helping Mr Gamble look after the newly planted trees around our canopy classroom. Children learnt how weeds and grasses compete with young trees for nutrients and water and how keeping the base of these new trees weed free is important in their first few years of growth. They learnt how to safely use tools, de-weed the intended area without disturbing the soil or the tree too much and how to flatten the soil back down. We are sure with their help these trees will be strong, healthy and at least double the size by the time Reception get to Year 6! Well done everyone!
