EYFS – Newsletter – 09.05.25

Well this week has flown by! After the bank holiday we came into school to see that there had been lots of growth! Our bean plants had shot up in class and our tiny baby chicks that hatched last week were already looking a lot bigger! We spent time ensuring both of these were able to keep growing as best as possible by tending to the plants and chicks, giving each the water and/or food they needed and keeping them warm.

A big part of our week was our trip to Grasslands Farm in North Yorkshire. Farmer David kindly showed us around and we had a fabulous time. Please see the separate web-post from Mr Gamble which has lots of photos from the farm trip. On Friday, we all decided it would be polite to write letters of thanks to Farmer David so got busy, applying all of our best phonics skills.

Whilst one group was at the farm, the other children stayed behind and we did some sentence writing practice, looking at a farm scene and writing about what we could see. We also practised some farm-themed addition and subtraction and spent time looking at what work is done on farms in this country.

We also got outdoors at school this week as we took a walk out to the field and garden to gather Spring flowers, buds, seeds and leaves that bring them back to class. The children then arranged their favourite pieces into their own ‘jar’ to keep preserved. There was of course lots of excitement around the chicks in class again this week, with the children getting a chance to stroke or hold the chicks and get a closer look at how they are growing and changing as the days go by. There were also some lovely Spring inspired artworks this week, with tissue paper flower collage, fluffy chick paintings and even some lovely goodbye cards for the chicks. That’s right – sadly we had to bid adieu to the fluffy little guys on Friday as they were collected to go back to the farm.

Have a lovely weekend!
