EYFS Newsletter – 16.12.2022

It’s been a seriously frosty and seriously fun last week of 2022 in Reception with lots of Christmassy goings on!

In term of Phonics and Maths sessions, we have been recapping on our previous learning to help embed all the fantastic learning we’ve done this year. The children have amazed us all with their hard work and how fast they have picked up all the work we’ve done so far. We’re looking forward to continuing in the new year with our new half term topic of ‘Amazing Animals’!

Thursday brought Reception’s fortnightly Forest Schools session, but with the temperature well below freezing (and under orders from the guv’nor) we only ventured out briefly for an explore and walk in the winter wonderland. The children had a great time examining all the ice crystals we found on leaves and exploring how the low winter sun made our shadows super long! Inside we talked all about winter and how things change for plants and animals as the weather cools. All the staff were certainly happy to have ‘migrated’ into the school again to get warm. The children were all offered a hot chocolate to warm them as we enjoyed a winter themed story-time.

Predictably, a lot of the week was given over to Christmas activities and celebration. On Wednesday, Reception children were invited to watch another Christmas production (this time it was Year 3 and 4’s turn) with some of Reception enjoying looking out for brothers and sisters on stage! Several times this week, the children have joined in with some follow-along drawing videos and we’ve seen some incredible Christmas themed pictures produced by the Reception class children (even those who swore they could NOT draw!).

The children loved their special festive lunch on Friday with crackers and party hats, plus lots of Christmas tunes!  Friday also saw our Christmas party in Reception with a games and a whole load of dancing before we all settled down for a Christmas movie with cookies and juice. Who could ask for more?!

We’d all like to say a huge thank you for all the kind cards, gifts and messages that have been given to Reception staff this week. We’re all looking forward to seeing the kids back in January for a whole lot more learning and fun… after a good break that is!

We hope you all have a wonderful break and a very Merry Christmas with your loved ones. See you in 2023!
