EYFS – Newsletter – 27/06/25
It’s been such an emotional end to the week as our brilliant students Miss Melody and Mr Ali have finished their placement with us. They have been such a great presence in class these past months and the children have grown so close to them, so we said goodbye on Thursday with lots of dancing, hugs and tears.
As part of our dinosaurs topic this week, we have been learning about different ancestors of the dinosaurs that are still with us today such as crocodiles and many birds such as the cassowary. Mr Ali and Miss Melody also taught us about other prehistoric creatures that have living ancestors today, such as the megalodon and woolly mammoth. The children also enjoyed using recycled materials to make junk model dinosaurs.
Phonics sessions this week have seen us working on polysyllabic words which has really tested the children’s phonics understanding. The children have become so much more confident in their spelling of longer words, and listening carefully to ensure they don’t miss any letters out. We’ve been very impressed with how hard the children have worked in remembering the rules for sentence writing and are now confident to do this on their own with very little prompting from us teachers!
In Maths we have been taking a look at the numbers beyond twenty and adding two numbers together. The children have played games of guessing the missing number and building number-lines from Numicon tiles. To rehearse addition in a fun way, the children played a bean bag throwing game and adding up their scores.
As next week is our last formal week in Reception before the children meet their new teachers during transition week (w/c Monday 7th July) please can we ask that all school reading books are returned by the end of next week. Thank you!
Have a lovely weekend
