EYFS – Signs of Spring – Forest School

At long last – pupils in Reception enjoyed a Forest School session with no rain in what feels like the first time since November! The session began with a discussion about Spring and what changes happen throughout the season. Children then went on a Spring Hunt around our field and school garden area spotting and discussing what we found and if it was something we only find in Spring or not. We also took down some of our birdboxes for their annual inspection and clean out. Pupils were amazed to find nests inside which had been used last Spring – one even had an unhatched egg inside. Carefully, we removed the nests for a closer inspection and pupils helped Mr Gamble put the empty birdboxes back on the trees in anticipation that they are used again. Children also spent time in our woodland area searching for the signs of Spring independently using their knowledge from earlier in the session.
