KS1 – Class 3 – Great Fire of London

Today in our English and Forest Schools session, we learnt more about the Great Fire of London. On Friday, we created houses using cardboard boxes similar to the houses that were around in 1666. Today, we took those houses to the fire pit, set alight one of the houses and watched as the fire grew across each house. We discussed how the wind and close proximity of the houses played a big part in the spread of the fire.

We also created houses out of sticks and logs in groups. We discussed the material of the houses (wood) and how this helped the fire grow. We used grass and leaves to create the ‘straw’ roofs and made each house close together similar to houses in 1666.
