KS1 – DT – Food Technology – 21/09/2026
Year 1 and 2 had lots of fun getting hands-on in our Food Technology lesson this week as we made our own delicious fruit platters!
The children practised their food preparation skills, carefully using the bridge hold and claw technique to safely cut and prepare a selection of colourful fruits. We were really impressed with how carefully and sensibly everyone worked!
Once our fruit platters were ready, it was time for the best part – the taste test! The children enjoyed trying the different fruits and used lots of descriptive vocabulary to talk about their flavours, textures and smells. We discussed which fruits were sweet, sour, juicy, crunchy and soft.
We also explored where different fruits grow around the world and talked about how they grow. The children were fascinated to discover that fruits can grow in lots of different ways, including on trees, bushes and plants.
