KS1 – National Apple Day – Forest School

Today KS1 pupils have been celebrating National Apple Day which falls every year on 21st October. To begin with, children started with some team games using apples that helped to focus their listening, problem solving and teamwork skills whilst trying to finish quicker than the other team. Afterwards, pupils led their own learning by choosing from a range of apple related activities on offer. First, they could try the traditional game of apple bobbing. Pupils were eager to throw their faces into the buckets at first but, after some time, they developed strategies and techniques for grabbing the apple as quickly as they could before their opponent. The second activity was apple printing to make pictures. Using poster paint, apples, sticks and their own fingers, pupils created some lovely animal paintings of the creatures we see and hear on the school grounds. Pupils could also make apple collages out of loose parts and glue as well as try some different varieties of apples including Pippin, Golden Delicious and Royal Gala. The final activity linked back to our work on loose parts again and children were tasked with creating the scariest, most terrifying apple monstersthey could using only loose parts. Pupils had to be resilient, creative and continually problem solve in order to attach parts without the use of tools. A special guest judge chose the scariest! Well done to all the winners!
