KS1 – National Tree Week – Forest School

To kick off our National Tree Week celebrations this year, Ks1 pupils enjoyed a tree themed session on the field. To begin with, children played a game called ‘Forest Fire.’ Children had to choose an animal and cross the forest from one safe zone to another without getting caught by the fire. If they did, they became the fire by holding hands and trying to catch the other animals as they ran past. As the game progressed, the ‘fire’ grew bigger and bigger and pupils had to communicate to ensure they could catch the remaining animals without letting go of each other’s hands – it was a lot harder than they thought! Afterwards, children discussed the important roles trees play in our lives – from giving us oxygen and food, to providing shelter and habitats and to the products we can make from them. Children then spent the rest of the session choosing their own learning. Pupils could choose from making their own charcoal paint and painting tree pictures, playing in the trees, using them to make dens or create their own tree themed games!
