KS1 – Newsletter – 12.9.25

Hello everyone and welcome to the Key Stage One newsletter. Each week we will post on here about what your child has been doing and learning and also any key dates you need to be aware of.

We had a great start to the week with all the children coming in dressed as what they would like to be when they grow up. We loved the creative ways they expressed themselves and they all wrote really well about what they would like to be and why.

We enjoyed reading the story of ‘Zog’ together and put some of the things from the story into practise! We had a great PE session with the large equipment ‘learning how to fly’. We have created our own dragons and given them names. Finally, we have been practising our handwriting using different multi-sensory approaches to ensure our formation is correct.

In Maths, Year One have been focusing on the representation of numbers. For example 3 fingers, 3 spots, 3 Numicon, 3 tally marks. They have been identifying and counting amounts of things and practising writing numbers the correct way round. In Year Two, the children have been using tens and ones charts and understanding the place value of numbers. They have been identifying and recording how many tens and ones in a given number.

It has also been the start of our PPA sessions on Tuesday. On these days, the children move around classrooms with different teachers for art, music, design technology, food technology and Forest schools.

In Year one, the children were listening to a steady beat in Music and doing actions to the beat. They have begun to explore various percussion instruments and how to play them. In Year Two, they have also been working with a steady beat and learning some harvest songs and singing games to practise pitch.

In Art, the children have been doing self portraits using graphite sticks. They have been observing themselves in the mirror and drawing they’re features thinking about placements.

The children began to look at The Good Food Guide in food technology. They began to learn about safe ways to use, look after and store equipment that they might use for cooking. In design technology, the children began thinking about what castles were used for and what features they had. The children then began to design their own castles including battlements, draw bridges etc…

We have also had the ipads  out and have been learning to use our own logins to access different apps safely.

Please remember to keep collecting glass jars for our next project. A team point for everyone brought in!
