KS1 – Newsletter – 17.10.25
It’s been another fun filled week in KS1 this week.
In English, we have been producing leaflets about Cookridge. We have been looking at the features of a leaflet and including a Title, subheadings, facts and pictures with captions. We wrote information about where, Cookridge is, what things you can do in Cookridge and also what Cookridge was like in the past. We found it interesting to find out the history of Cookridge and how there used to be lots of farmland here. In phonics, Year One have been learning about the split digraph a-e for space and Year Two have been adding suffix endings -ed and -ing.
Year One have been partitioning two digit numbers in maths, identifying how many tens and ones and noting that 34 is 30 + 4. One group in Year Two have begun to add two digit numbers. They have been using Base Ten to physically make the numbers and started to draw them. The other group have continued doing column addition, using bar models and whole part models.
In geography, we have been looking at maps of the United Kingdom. We have been naming and labelling the four countries that make up the UK. We then looked at the waters that surround the United Kingdom and labelled those too.
We had a lovely time in forest schools, singing songs in our outdoor classroom. We then collected a whole variety of leaves along with the ones that were brought into school. We stuck them onto paper creating animals with the leaves and stuck on googly eyes!
We began to look at some of the core Islamic beliefs in RE. We learned about the symbol of the crescent moon and star and the fact Muslims attend Mosques. We looked at pictures of the outside and inside of different mosques and their features. We also learned about Allah being One God and had a look at The Qu’ran, the Muslim’s holy book.
In PE, we have been focusing on fundamentals. This week, we have been playing different sporty games that encouraged us to run, jump and find spaces.
