KS1 – Newsletter – 17.9.21

What a week of imagination it has been in Key stage one as we continued to read and explore the ‘You Choose’ and ‘You choose your dreams’ books.

Our English has continued to be focused around these books, looking at all kinds of crazy and wonderful things we might like to do our be. Year 2 have been creating masks of animals they would like to be and writing about how they were made. They then wrote about whether they would like to be really big or small, where they would travel to etc.. and why. In Year one, they were imagining crazy things they could do and having a go at them, like writing with their feet. They then went on to write about what they had done. The week has ended with the children imagining what they would like to be when they grow up. It has been fabulous to see them all in their creative costumes.

In Maths we have all been focusing on Place Value, ensuring the children understand the difference between tens and ones and their place in a number. We have been representing these numbers both indoors and outdoors using a variety of resources such as Base 10, Numicon, money, Counters etc…

It was PPA day on Tuesday where the children enjoyed learning about percussion instruments in Music. They listened to four different pieces of music and moving their bodies according to how they made them feel. In art, they painted large rocks with snails and butterflies to decorate the Forest schools area. In PE, the children began a unit on Gymnastics, using the large apparatus in the hall. In RE, they did and introduction to RE. They were able to talk about what they already know about the Christian and Islamic faith and had an overview of a whole variety of faiths what they wear, their place of worship and some things they do to practise their faith.

Year One have been to use computers and have been learning how to log on to the computer and how to access Purple Mash. We have been using programs such as Lexia, Spellingshed and Numbots across the phase.

In Geography this week we began working on our field work skills. We walked around the schools grounds, recording all the things we could see and hear in different areas of the school.

Your child should now have a Reading Record to go with their reading book. Please use this to record what book your child has read and how far through the book they have read. Remember, we do not expect some children to read a whole book every night as the books get longer. Every time you sign the diary, please return it along with their book. Your child’s book will be changed and they will be rewarded.

You should also have received a Homework grid. All of these tasks are OPTIONAL. Your child may do as many or few as they like and return them to school at whatever point they are finished to receive team points.

On 18th October, we will be holding a Talent show. In past years parents have been invited along for this event, but due to the current situation this will not be possible this year. However, we will record the event and it will be uploaded for you to see. Please have a chat to your child about what they might like to do as their talent. It may be singing, dancing, reciting a poem, telling jokes, football skills, a magic trick, hoola hooping…..use your imagination – The children are getting good at that! Auditions will be held next week, Good luck everyone!
