Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

It been a fun and festive week in Key Stage One. We enjoyed singing our songs from the nativity for the final time outside Asda on Monday. It was lovely to see so many of you there and thank you for supporting us raising money too.

Of course, a lot of what we have been doing this week has revolved around Christmas. We have completed lots of fun Maths, consolidating all the skills that they have been learning through out the term. We have made Christmas cards, Christmas crafts, made Christmas pictures on Purple Mash in Computing and enjoyed a Christmas party with games and dancing and of course the Christmas disco..

In English, we have listened to and acted out the Christmas story. We have also been playing games and completing activities to help us learn to read and spell the Common Exception Words for Year One and Year Two. We all then had a go at writing the words and seeing if we can remember the tricky spellings. Please continue to read and practise spelling these spellings with your children at home.

In geography, we enjoyed a ‘Now Press Play’ session, exploring the seas and oceans around the world and the different sealife we might see there. It’s amazing how much water covers our planet!

We created a concept map in history, to show the knowledge that we have learnt over the term about Cookridge. We included things like what Cookridge was like in the past, covered in fields, with farms growing potatoes and corn and how people walked everywhere. There used to a hospital and Cookridge Hall used to be someone’s house and also a hospital. We compared this with what Cookridge is like now with lots of houses and other buildings such as Asda, the fire station and Holt Park Active.

We finished our topic on materials in Science by looking at the different materials used to make items. We discussed why different materials were used rather than other ones. We then categorised items in a venn diagram looking at the properties they are made from.

It has been a wonderful term in Key Stage One and we have loved sharing it with your children. Have a fantastic break and we will see you all in the new year ready for more fun and active learning!

Dates for your diary.
