LKS2 – C5 & 7 – Science

This half term, we have been learning about how to group living things. Over the lessons, we brainstormed as many different ways as possible to categorise a variety of living creatures. We then explored the concept of classification keys through reading and following classifications keys. We practised using yes or no questions to classify different living things, making sure to consider important scientific variables such as habitat and diet.

After gaining an understanding of how classification works, we were given a selection of animals. In our groups, we collaborated to create our own classification keys, coming up with lots of questions to help us sort these fascinating creatures. For instance, we asked questions like “Does it have fur?” or “Can it live in water?”
