LKS2 – Class 5 – catapult making

This morning, children in Class 5 took part in another team competition! They had to work in their team point groups to design and make a catapult. We started by discussing what a catapult is used for, and looked at various examples to pick out the key features. Then the children designed their own catapult, thinking carefully about the skills and materials they would use. They were given one elastic band and some string, but everything else had to be found outside! After break the children went on to the field, collected resources and made their catapults. The morning ended with a dramatic competition, to see which team’s catapult could launch a tennis ball the furthest. There were some excellent design skills on display and fantastic problem solving and resilience as a team.
