LKS2 – Egyptian Session – Forest School

In Forest School today, pupils in LKS2 put into practice the skills they learnt last week in using whittling knives, loppers and secateurs. The session began in the school garden area where pupils instructed Mr Gamble how to use the tools safely and they were very quick to spot and stop him when he did something wrong! Children were then tasked with using the three tools to make their own writing implement, complete with a decorated handle, and charcoal ink/paint using charcoals and water where they tried to create a liquid which wasn’t too runny. The session then moved to the Forest School woodland area where children organised themselves into teams and were tasked with hiding some Ancient Egyptian treasure. The team then wrotes clues in heiroglyphics using their writing implement and charcoal ink which they then swaped with another group. The final challenge was to read the cryptic message before setting off on a treasure hunt to bring back the Ancient Egyptian’s gold! The children, and adults, had a great time and the day was simply wonderful – well done LKS2!
