LKS2 – Newsletter – 06.11.20

Welcome back!

What a lovely first week back LKS2 have had.

In English this week, we have been learning all about the Amesbury Archer. His grave was discovered in 2002 and held over 100 different objects. Tests resulted in dating him to the Bronze Age. From the artefacts discovered, and through scientific tests on his skeleton, we have learnt lots about his life and who he might have been. However, even 4,300 years after his death, it remains a mystery why and how he died. In groups, children acted out what could have been his final hours, with everything from battles, animal attacks, robberies and hunting!

In Miss Boyd’s maths, we have been recapping a previous skill that we learnt in year 3. This year, we are looking at larger, four digit numbers and even sometimes reaching over to five digit numbers! Miss Boyd has been blown away by the resilience and determination of her class completing their column addition this week, keep up the amazing work year 4!

This week, Miss Evans’ maths group have continued learning about the perimeter of 2D shapes. On Tuesday and Wednesday they were faced with a variety of mystery shapes, which they had to calculate the perimeter of. The children measured each side carefully with a ruler, and recorded the length in cm. Finally, they found the sum of all the sides to calculate the perimeter! All children showed excellent measuring skills and teamwork throughout.

We have been learning French this week. First, we recapped our numbers from 1-10, sounding them out and also spelling them. We consolidated this by playing French number bingo. Then, we moved onto asking ‘how old are you?’ which is ‘quel âge as tu’. We were all able to ask our partner this and respond with our age in French! Very impressive.

A reminder that Tuesday and Friday next week are Forest School.

We hope you all have a great weekend,

The LKS2 Team.
