LKS2 – Newsletter – 21.5.21

Despite the weather, LKS2 have had a great week!

In English this week, we took part in a debate following the statement ‘The senators were right to assassinate Julius Caesar’. We could choose whether to strongly agree, agree, disagree or strongly disagree. We all came up with many valid points and then created our own view point in a paragraph, focusing on using conjunctions. To end the week, we did whole class role play where we acted out Julius Caesar’s assassination. Then, we completed a story board following the events of his assassination in chronological order.

Miss Boyd’s maths group have been continuing with division this week. We have worked very hard to learn the skill so have been extending our knowledge and completing division questions within different contexts. Our three day carousel had an activity where we had various holiday prices for different amounts of people and we had to work out the holiday price for one person. Another activity involved two-step word problems around money and division and our final activity asked us to complete a three digit by one digit division then use an iPad to scan and check our answers.

Miss Evans’ class have been tackling division this week, and learning how to use the bus stop method to calculate division of 3 digit numbers by a 1 digit number. We started the week using counters to share a value into equal groups. Then we moved on to divisions with remainders, and we found that when we shared the value we had some counters left over. This practice helped us use remainders in the written method later in the week.

Mr Gambles class have also been learning bus stop method/short division to divide two digit numbers by one digit numbers.

This week in science, we learned all about the digestive system. We learned about the different parts of the digestive system and how it breaks down food into other substances that our bodies can use. We completed a card sorting activity which involved ordering the different organs in the digestive system. Finally, we created an animation of the digestive system on ‘2Animate’, including the journey from the oesophagus to the stomach and intestines.

What a brilliant Eid celebration party we have had this afternoon. To begin with, we learnt all about Eid. Then, we all tried various foods and some got paint tattoos. Finally, we played games and created Eid crafts.

Great work to our learnatics this week, you have been incredible!

We hope you all enjoy your weekends,
