LKS2 Newsletter 30/4/21

Happy Bank Holiday weekend! The children in LKS2 have had a fantastic week of learning, from times tables to animation…

This week in English, LKS2 have been working towards writing a newspaper report all about Caesar’s invasion of Britain. On Monday, the children looked at real newspapers to discover the features of a newspaper article. They were given a checklist of things that all newspaper reports contain, including catchy headlines and pictures with captions. They cut out examples of each feature and stuck them on to an A3 sheet of paper. Now they have all the information they need to write their own proper newspaper report!

In Class 5 and Class 7, the Y4 children have had another week focused on times tables. They have enjoyed a range of games and activities, including generating their own times table questions by rolling a dice, challenging their partner to a times table board game and going outside to make their own times table games! These included making arrays using natural resources, and drawing out a times table hopscotch.

This week in computing, we moved onto our new topic of animation. First, we researched all about the history of animation then compared Walt Disney’s first animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which was made with CEL technology, and more recent films like Toy Story which use CGI technology. For our task we each made our own flip book.

This morning, we used computer software to bring the Romans to life! The headphones took us through a day in the life of a Roman child living in Britain at the time of Boudicca’s revolt. Pupils absolutely loved it and their dramatisation of events were fantastic.

Learnatics

A massive well done to this week’s learnatics, who have shown an amazing attitude to their work this week, as well as being kind and caring to other children.

Bank Holiday

Please note that school is shut on Monday (3rd May) due to the Bank Holiday. We will be back open on Tuesday 4th May.

Swimming

If your child is in Class 5, please ensure they come to school wearing a coat every Wednesday. The children walk to swimming in the afternoon whatever the weather, so it is important they are prepared for cold and rain!

Well done to all the children for another great week. Enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend!
