LKS2 – Science – Working Scientifically 6 – 10/09/2026

This week in Science, LKS2 became scientists and carried out an exciting sink or float investigation!

We began by looking carefully at a range of different objects and making predictions about whether we thought each one would sink or float. We discussed our ideas and explained the scientific thinking behind our predictions before putting our theories to the test!

After testing each object, we grouped and classified them according to whether they sank or floated and compared our results with our original predictions.

But our scientific thinking didn’t stop there! We began asking our own “What if…?” questions. What might happen if we peeled the orange? Would shaking the cans change whether they sank or floated? We enjoyed testing some of these ideas and observing what happened.

To finish the lesson, we discussed our findings and orally answered questions about what we had discovered. We were fantastic at using our observations and results to explain our thinking.
