LKS2 – Shelter Making – Forest School

Today, in a bitterly cold wind, pupils in LKS2 completed their series of sessions using knots to make shelters. The lesson began in the classroom where pupils had a quick reminder and practice of the Bowling Knot as well as tying the other end of the rope to keep it taught. Next, pupils reviewed their last session where they celebrated what went well and offered advice and tips on what, and how, certain things could be improved. Afterwards, classes ventured outside to create their shelter in teams of their own choosing. As they went along, they learnt the importance of problem solving, working methodically and how teamwork, communication and respect for each other were just as important as the skills needed in tying knots and erecting a shelter.
