Tree Planting – Forest School

Today, pupils in Wellbeing Wednesday and Year 3 spent their Forest School sessions planting a variety of trees in our school grounds. These included apple, pear, plum and oak trees and they will all add to the diverse range of habitats we provide for wildlife here at school. Between them, pupils had to dig holes, remove spoil, fill and move wheelbarrows of compost and plant the new trees – ensuring they were firm enough in the ground. Children learnt about the value of compost and what it provides for plants, root systems and the importance of fruit trees; not only for us in providing food but also for bees and other pollinating insects in the Spring. Well done everyone on a hard day’s work and we look forward to seeing these trees grow and develop over the years!
