UKS2 – Class 8 – Science

This afternoon, the children took part in an exciting science experiment as part of our ongoing learning about scientific inquiry.

We began by discussing the different types of variables involved in an experiment:

• Independent variable – the factor we change

• Dependent variable – the factor we measure

• Controlled variables – the factors we keep the same to ensure a fair test

As a class, we then decided on our own experiment to explore the question:
“Does changing the person who throws a ball affect the distance it is thrown?”

The children were very engaged and worked well together to plan and carry out the investigation, applying their understanding of variables to design a fair test.
