UKS2 – Newsletter – 02.07.2021

It has been a busy week in UKS2. On Monday, we had our last PPA day of the year. In PE the children practised their races for sports day and really got into the competitive spirit. In art, the children designed and decorated their own stones to go in the garden. Finally, instead of music, the children were tasked with competing some key skill work on ICT equipment using Lexia, TTrockstars, Spelling Shed and Purple Mash.

On Tuesday in English, the children role played as James Bond and M. In order to get into character of 007, pupils were asked to jump into the shoes of the famous spy to develop their knowledge of his character further for their James Bond narrative write.

This week in maths, Class 8 have been using the results from their recent assessments to do some instant AFL learning. Addressing misconceptions from both reasoning papers, the children can target their specific areas for improvement, whilst practising their arithmetic skills in the interim.

On Wednesday,

Yesterday, Year 5 were lucky enough to be gifted a new book from ‘Magic Breakfast’. Supplied my Marcus Rashford MBE in partnership with Magic Breakfast, each child received a copy of ‘A Dinosaur Ate My Sister’ along with an activity pack.

Marcus Rashford MBE said: “I only started reading at 17, and it completely changed my outlook and mentality. I just wish I was offered the opportunity to really engage with reading more as a child, but books were never a thing we could budget for as a family when we needed to put food on the table. There were times where the escapism of reading could have really helped me. I want this escapism for all children. Not just those that can afford it. We know there are over 380,000 children across the UK today that have never owned a book, children that are in vulnerable environments. That has to change. My books are, and always will be, for every child.”

“Everyone is aware of my experiences with Breakfast Club – it brightened up the start of my day, it stabilised the school day for me, and allowed me to form life-long friendships. I’m really happy to be partnering with Magic Breakfast to get books in the hands – and homes – of children who will most benefit from them.
