UKS2 – Newsletter – 18.06.2021

On Monday, UKS2 enjoyed a varied and exciting day in PPA. In PE, the children had their first rounders lesson. Focusing on the key skills of throwing, fielding and batting, the children then took part in some small sided games. In music, the children used boom whackers to play some of their favourite songs. Finally in art, the children were sketching the England football team, following their emphatic victory against Croatia. After being given half the player’s face, the children used mirrors to sketch the rest.

On Tuesday, UKS2 completed their science share. Focusing on the impact of plastic on our planet (a topic that links directly to our current write!) the children were tasked with a verbal debate on the positives and negatives of plastic. Each class took on the task in a different way.

Class 8 created their own protest posters and debated between themselves.

Class 9 focused on a rehearsed debate.

Whilst Class 10 used ICT to create powerpoint presentation before their debate.

All the children showed their passion about the subject well resulting in excellent debates across the phase. We will also have an excellent balanced argument written over the next two weeks. Further solidification of the children’s enthusiasm and knowledge surrounding this contentious and important topic.

On Wednesday, Class 8 took to the field brimming with maths resources. Exploring the topic for the first time since lockdown, the children were tasked with displaying their knowledge on equivalence, simplifying and adding fractions. There was some excellent creative learning and some even more admirable resilience shown by the pupils. Well done everybody!

In Forest School, the children were tasked with creating their own Aztec artwork with their findings from the field. There was some excellent work created and some admirable teamwork observed. Well done!
