UKS2 – Newsletter – 22.04.22

It has been a short, but busy week in UKS2.

On Wednesday, Miss Barnicoat’s maths group continued their work with fractions, completing a range of activities in a carousel. Orange group attempted to multiply mixed numbers by integers. Using tangibles to help us, the children answered a series of questions in their books and worked  in pairs to address our misconceptions.

Blue group practised converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions by playing dominoes. Using their whiteboards for working out, and their partners to help address misconceptions; the children practised the skills we learnt before Easter.

Finally, yellow group worked with Mrs Wilson-Hill, multiplying fractions by integers. Using bar models to help, the children completed a range of calculations to secure their knowledge.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Year 6 took part in a PSHE workshop led by the Leeds United Foundation. The workshop, which is aimed at 10-11 year olds, aims to ensure that as pupils leave primary and head in to high school,  they make ‘good choices’ in order to keep themselves, their families and their friends safe. The session has a particular focus on online safety and included role-play and discussion sessions, as well as a message from Leeds United player Tyler Roberts!

What fun we had during Green Time today exploring our latest addition to the Forest School area – a ninja slackline. Complete with a ladder, swing, cargo net and monkey bars, pupils enjoyed testing themselves on the new equipment with some even synchronising movements with friends.

The timetables have changed on the website. Thursday week 2 is now curriculum recovery, not Forest School, so children need to attend school in normal uniform.

Finally, as you know the countdown SATs is nearly over, and Year 6 are working exceptionally hard in the build up. Any work that can be completed at home at this point would be very useful, especially using mathletics, spelling shed and TTRockstars.

Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you for Forest School on Monday!
