UKS2 – Newsletter – 24.01.20

It has been a busy week in UKS2 this week. On Monday we had our first Forest School day of the new year. Despite the cold weather, UKS2 had a terrific day outside, demonstrating exceptional behaviour and an outstanding attitude to learning. All pupils took part in a number of activities, including constructing their own space station, whittling wood, fire building as well as showing their creativity by designing and drawing their own habitats for animals native to Cookridge.

In science this week UKS2 have been exploring the phases of the moon. Pupils displayed their understanding by creating their own models using torches and table tennis balls. They were able to use the correct terminology of waning and waxing to describe which phase the moon was, depending on the position of the sun. Challenge your child to see if they can describe tonight’s moon – if you can see it!

On Thursday, Class 9 completed an ICT exercise based on algorithms. Working in small group, students used the Bee-Bots to navigate the landscape of space. Pupils had to edit the algorithm to ensure they didn’t hit any space obstacles on their approach to the Moon!

Finally, this week pupils have been developing their understanding of conversational French. They worked in pairs to introduce themselves by understanding, asking and answering the question: ‘What is your name?’ If you look closely, you may see some familiar faces!
