Wellbeing Wednesday – Forest School

Today we had two very different sessions for the two groups. The older children spent their session focusing on apples as part of National Apple Day which was yesterday. To begin with, they were challenged to create an apple collage using loose parts found on the floor. They used their imaginations to design an interesting range of apples using different coloured leaves found at this time of year. They then gave their new variety a name and decribed how it would taste and detail any specific information about the apple – there were some very interesting features! Next, children took turns apple bobbing. It was great fun and the children learnt how games need rules which need to be followed in order to keep the game fun and fair. Importantly, we also discussed how we can be gracious winners and happy losers! The younger pupils spent their session in the garden area. After going to inspect their work from last time (clearing leaves and bagging them up to make leaf mould compost), they were shocked to see leaves everywhere. We discussed Autumn, decidious leaves and the turning of the seasons and how we need to be resilient and keep going when faced with disappointment or things not going our way. Children then took to the task of clearing the leaves again showing great levels of determination and a ‘can-do’ attitude in order to clear the space again. Well done everyone!
