Wellbeing Wednesday – Forest School
On a wet and soggy yet warm 5th November, pupils in Wellbeing Wednesday got to build and light their own bonfires. Once lit and burning, we discussed the tradition of bonfires, that famous night in 1605 when Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament and the lasting legacy it had. We discussed a whole range of things like their experiences of bonfires and fireworks, the pleasure they bring, the nuisance they can cause and potential hazards to people and wildlife. We also talked about traditional foods to eat around Bonfire Night and created our very own toffee apples which we roasted on the fire using a simple mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon for a bit of flavouring – delicious! The older children even managed to squeeze in a little bit of leaf collecting to make lovely leaf mould compost with!
