Wellbeing Wednesday – Forest School

On an extremely chilly morning, pupils in Wellbeing Wednesday loved being outside to admire the natural beauty of a heavy frost. In order to keep warm, the younger children were challenged to complete a winter walk challenge by searching for a range of items from catkins to frozen cobwebs and ice to footprints! Children had to complete the challenge as quickly as they could in order to be crowned the winter walk challenge winners! Whilst this was happening, Mr Gamble lit a fire in the canopy classroom and pupils enjoyed getting toasty by the fire and roasting marshmallows to warm themselves up! The older pupils were tasked to create wind chimes for our wooded area using old xylophone and glockenspiel parts. Children had to design and source the materials they would need, use loppers or secateurs to cut the pieces of wood to size and develop some basic knots in order to attach twine. Although finding it very tricky at times, especially when they thought they had finished only to hang it on a tree and watch as it all fell apart, pupils showed unbelievable amounts of teamwork and resilience to keep going and succeed in the end. All the wind chimes will be a lovely addition to our Forest School sessions – well done everyone. There was even time for a roasted marshmallow too to warm them up!
