Y2 – Phonics – D7 – 05.10.26

Our Year 2 children have been busy learning how to make words plural by adding ‘s’ or ‘es’.

We explored how some words simply need an ‘s’, such as cat → cats, while others follow a trickier rule! When a word ends in a consonant followed by ‘y’, we drop the ‘y’, change it to ‘i’ and add ‘es’, such as baby → babies.

We took our learning outdoors, using chalk on the playground to practise changing words, before playing fun spelling games to help us remember and apply the rules.

The children have been developing their spelling confidence and learning how to choose the correct spelling rule when writing!
